It’s official: Patty Jenkins will direct ‘Wonder Woman 2’

‘Wonder Woman 2’ is scheduled to hit theaters December 13, 2019.

While it would have been a bizarre call to have someone else direct, rumors of Patty Jenkins signing on to direct the sequel to the smash-hit of the summer, Wonder Woman, were just that — rumors.

Thankfully, we now have confirmation. According to Variety, Patty Jenkins has officially signed a deal to direct Wonder Woman 2. Star Gal Gadot has already signed on to reprise her role as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman took the world by storm this past summer, netting $409 million at the box office domestically and $813 million worldwide. The movie nearly single-handedly restored faith in the DCEU, and the upcoming Justice League movie may have undergone extensive reshoots to cast Wonder Woman in a more prominent light.

Since releasing the surprise hit of the summer, Patty Jenkins made headlines again after responding to James Cameron’s vaguely sexist comments about the movie. Cameron said the movie was just “male Hollywood doing the same old thing,” and blasted Wonder Woman as an “objectified icon.” Jenkins fired back, saying, “If women have to always be hard, tough and troubled to be strong, and we aren’t free to be multidimensional or celebrate an icon of women everywhere because she is attractive and loving, then we haven’t come very far have we?”

Wonder Woman 2 is scheduled to be released December 13, 2019. Your next look at Diana Prince on the big screen will come in Justice League, which will be released November 17, 2017.
