All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #10
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Gerry Duggan | Art by Aaron Kuder
Published by: Marvel Comics

Dave: “Our universe is a complicated simulation,” god I hope so! Pretty page too!

Dog: It’s beautiful, but I’m not sure why the space gem has an aura like a manga stingray.

Patrick!: Star-Lord picked up a Grateful Dead tape I see.

Brian: When did Vincent VanGogh join the Guardians? Before or after the ear thing?

Journey to Star Wars the Last Jedi Captain Phasma #2
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Kelly Thompson | Art by Marco Checchetto
Published by: Marvel Comics

Dave: Star Wars rule #38: If you wear a cool helmet you must be pulled into a sharp-toothed monster’s mouth via tentacles.

Cam: Yeah, it really incentivises headgear, but it DOES cut down on helmet hair.

JJ: In this other worlds tale, Star Wars meets hentai.

Patrick!: I honestly never saw the “cool” in Boba Fett. He’s 4 foot 8, and dies like a bitch.

Jason: …but….but the extended universe….and its questionable canon….

Invincible Iron Man #11
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Brian Michael Bendis | Art by Kate Niemczyk
Published by: Marvel Comics

Dave: “…I had the number one song in the world and in it it listed all the men I had been with,” So Tony’s mom is Taylor Swift now? Ugh.

Jason: Fun Fact: This is the same line that Lou Bega feeds to people that ask him about Mambo #5. It’s just as fictitious, of course, as the name Erica was outlawed in Bega’s native Germany.

Patrick!: Remember when Mary Jane was a cool character dealing with the fact that her idiot husband almost died every few minutes, and she was on Venom’s shit-list? Yeah this seems way better. Thanks again Quesada.

Dog: I don’t know, I kind of like girdled, color guard ninja escort MJ.

David H: When you have a dinner date at 9, but still have to save the world at midnight.

Venomverse #3
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Cullen Bunn | Art by Iban Coello
Published by: Marvel Comics

Jason: Ugh, another unrealistic body image here. Of course Carnage’s butt needs to be in the pic. Jeez, Marvel. Carnage’s eyes are up here!

Dave: This brings back some Maximum Carnage vibes!

Patrick!: This is the 90’s me talking, but man did I love Carnage. When I was 13 it was like YEAH! BE A BADASS! THAT WIMP VENOM NEVER EATS FACES. How times have changed.

Dog: What I’m not thrilled with is the sudden urge by some writers to make Cletus an Appalachian hillbilly. I know, that’s pretty much what he *IS*, but the yokel-isms are getting overdone. I’m surprised he’s not drawn here wearing a straw hat and slugging from a jug with “XXX” on it.

Brian: How does he even make words happen with a mouth like that?

Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye #12
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Jon Rivera | Art by Michael Avon Oeming (colors by Nick Filardi)
Published by: DC Comics

Dave: What a beautiful page. As she washes herself in memories and love she realizes she’s not just a cold robot.

Patrick!: Aww. Being a parent is awesome.

Dog: I like how the background looks like Robert Oppenheimer’s kitchen wallpaper.

Nightwing #29
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Tim Seeley | Art by Paul Pelletier
Published by: DC Comics

Dave: Winter Freeze is Coming.

JJ: Disney’s newest attraction coming this December, Uncle Freeze’s Winter Wonderland! For kids!

Patrick!: At least Marvel is blatant with its pop culture tie ins. Sheesh.

Dog: Hollywood FINALLY got around to remaking Batman and Robin! Because geriatric Terminator Arnie wasn’t enough!

Brian: If the whole lake is ice, is it still a lake?

Batwoman #7
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Marguerite Bennett | Art by Fernando Blanco
Published by: DC Comics

Dave: This isn’t normal. But on meth it is!

Dog: I think I just solved cattle mutilations. Get me Alex Jones.

The Defenders #5
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Brian Michael Bendis | Art by David Marquez
Published by: Marvel Comics

Dave: Why don’t these two get a book already?!

Dog: Or a room. This is like foreplay at an Eyes Wide Shut party.

Cam: This is a reeeeal Pot/Kettle situation.

Patrick!: “Why don’t YOU sniff my butt? Why don’t YOU shut your pie hole?” I love that Iron Fist, no matter where you put him, gets into a quip relationship immediately.

Red Hood and the Outlaws #14
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Scott Lobdell | Art by Joe Bennett
Published by: DC Comics

Dave: What’s worse, Bizarro being smart or Bizarro wearing crocs? The Fashion Police need to get on this!

Dog: Oh god, he’s not going to reenact that scene from the Deadpool movie, is he?

Brian: Bizzaro with that haircut is like some Forrest Gump knock-off. It’s like he tried getting a hip fade, but went to a Bizzaro barber and now is just sad every day in his robe and crocs and now I’m sad for him.

Action Comics #987
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Dan Jurgens | Art by Viktor Bogdanovic
Published by: DC Comics

Dave: Humanity sucks: In one page.

Jason: It’s bad enough that that they’re engaging in some of the most monstrous behaviors imaginable, but that they are providing expositional narration for their actions is maybe the worst sin of all.

JJ: How to introduce your children to comics 101.

Patrick!: “Hey buddy, whatcha reading? WHAT IN THE HOLY HELL?”

Brian: Did we really need a hooded villain for all this to happen? I’m pretty sure humanity is terrible all on its own.

Dark Knights: Metal #2
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Scott Snyder | Art by Greg Capullo
Published by: DC Comics

Dave: However cool you think these nightmares are we all must give respect to the fantastic Darkseid baby.

Cam: Aww, how adorbs. Turns out the Anti-Life Equation is in his diaper! Ba-dum Ching!

Patrick!: As meh as I am on this whole Metal thing, Flash-batman’s character design is THE BEST.

Brian: Those Robins are going to give me knightmares. Get it?

Winnebago Graveyard #4
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Steve Niles | Art by Alison Sampson
Published by: Image Comics

Dave: Crocodile Dundee: The Kid Years.

Cam: I have no idea what he’s gutting there, but I’m impressed that he can open it up from tip to tail, going through ribs and all, using what is basically a pocket knife.

Patrick!: This panel makes me think they’re gutting and skinning the blonde kid.

Dog: Jesus, it’s only a little nippy; you didn’t have to go full tauntaun on him.

Youngblood #5
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Chad Bowers | Art by Jim Towe
Published by: Image Comics

Dave: Shaft is going to need to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow with his feet I guess. Ouch!

Cam: Green Arrow has set precedent in Miller’s Dark Knight story…

Patrick!: What the hell is is with red archers losing arms?

Jason: I’ve spoken to a doctor, and Shaft should be alright moving forward. Wait, what’s that? He’ll be ALL right, you say?

https://media.giphy.com/media/gdBv47D1BjrvW/giphy.gif

Brian: I’m just disarming Shaft! I can dig it!

Thor vs. Hulk #1
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Jeremy Whitley | Art by Simone Buonfantino
Published by: Marvel Comics

Dave: I love that Brood’s bedazzled belt!

Cam: Seconded.

Jason: Is….is its name Turgid the Unbeatable? Was Faluss the Unfappable a little too on the nose?

Patrick!: “Hiyeee! Actually Turgid is down the hall, I’m Eeengo, Turgid’s assistant. Do you have an appointment for Mr. Unbeatable? I must say he’s QUITE busy today with being not beaten, so you might have to come back, mmkay?”

Scales & Scoundrels #1
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Sebastian Girner | Art by Galaad
Published by: Image Comics

Dave: What a pretty and seamless montage!

Brian: What else is there to say? Every inch tells a story.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #21
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017
Written by Elliott Kalan | Art by Todd Nauck
Published by: Marvel Comics

Dave: Noice!

Brian: How did someone not named Wade Wilson get that line?

Dog:

Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Iron Fist #7
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Ed Brisson | Art by Mike Perkins
Published by: Marvel Comics

Dave: COOLEST. FIGHT DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD. EVER.

JJ: Mike Perkins rules. That is all.

Patrick!: He’s going to pay for making me do this…but it’s still kind of awesome…and Shang is GOING DOWN.

Venomverse #2
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Cullen Bunn | Art by Iban Coello
Published by: Marvel Comics

Dave: Where is Groot-Venom? WHERE!?

Cam: Who is the one on the roof of the car? He looks like Matt Wagner’s Grendel…

Jason: Black Ant I believe.

Patrick!: Cable-Venom needs more pouches.

Brian: #notmyvenom

Grrl Scouts: Magic Socks #5
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Jim Mahfood | Colors by Justin Stewart
Publisher: Image Comics

Dave: Signs that you’re a bad person are…

Jason: In her defense, a lot of those people with “Free Hugs” signs creep me out, too.

JJ: I guess I’m a terrible person too because this all looks like a grand ole time to me. The gun to the blind guy’s head kills me. I’ll go now.

Patrick!: Love this art.

Peter Parker: Spectacular Spider-Man #4
Monthly POP: Panels of Purpose - September 2017

Written by Chip Zdarsky | Art by Adam Kubert
Publisher: Marvel Comics

Dave: Clearly Spider-Man needs to be punching and dodging something to really let his jokes fly!

Brian: I think every open mic night should feature a superhero, just to bring them down a peg or two.

Dog: Dying (and being replaced by your aged arch-nemesis who tries to outdo your do-gooding but fails so miserably your GHOST has to reach out from your cerebellum and take control of your body back) is easy. Comedy is hard.
