With BlizzCon just a day away, the internet is teeming with rumors and speculation around what we can expect Blizzard to announce this year. If you’ve been paying attention to the Irvine, California-based company at all over the last year, there are two announcements in particular you’d expect: Warcraft III and Diablo II remastered.
Starcraft: Remastered was announced in March of this year and released to the world four months later in August. It’s essentially a foregone conclusion at this point that Diablo II and Warcraft III will follow at some point and what better time to announce it to the world than BlizzCon?
Don’t go away just yet, skeptics. If the release of Starcraft: Remastered isn’t enough to convince you, then maybe this little nugget of information will be. In June of this year, a Blizzard job listing for a Senior Software Engineer was spotted. The job description included one key sentence that should pique your interest:
Compelling stories. Intense multiplayer. Endless replayability. Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation. We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done.
While the listing has since been taken down, it’s clear this is no mere coincidence as we haven’t heard a word of either of the two games in years prior to the Starcraft: Remastered announcement.
But wait, there’s more!
This more or less confirms that we’re getting Diablo II remastered, at least in my mind anyway. I don’t know about you but some of my fondest gaming memories include Baal runs and trying to get my hands on as many Stone of Jordans as possible without getting ripped off and killed. There’s sure to be a lot of fun and exciting news out of Blizzard this weekend and the gaming nerds at AiPT! are confident Diablo II and Warcraft III remastered will be a big part of it.
