Here’s what’s added to the Wasteland mythology in Old Man Hawkeye #1

It’s not just inbred Hulks and Spider-Bitch anymore.

Needless to say, there are SPOILERS ahead. You’ve been warned.

One of the great things about the original Old Man Logan, by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, was that it was a fresh take on familiar faces — a world just a bit skewed from our own, where anything could happen and the characters you knew weren’t quite themselves.

Now that Old Man Hawkeye is upon us, it’s clear that NY Daily News geek culture specialist turned comic book writer Ethan Sacks is determined to add to that tapestry, as we learn the story of how an aged Clint Barton went blind.

Right from the get-go, we have an inbred bunch of lookalikes — but it’s not the Hulk Gang! The dupes of Jamie Madrox (aka the Multiple Man) have taken on lives of their own (though they speak in unison), and bristle at any mention of “the progenitor.” Left unanswered is what happened to the real Madrox, or why they thought that facial hair was a good idea.

Claire Temple is still night-nursing, somewhere in Electroville, although it begs the question of how much work she actually does these days, with all the heroes dead. Nevertheless, with Netflix popularity comes a resurgence in comic appearances, just in time for Claire to break the bad news!

Clint’s legendary marksmanship will soon fail him, but apparently not before one final showdown with a similarly skillful adversary. Marshall Bullseye just moseyed into town, with an upgrade that makes him look like some OTHER legendary marksman (some guy on a Squad, or something).

You can bet the projectiles will fly in Old Man Hawkeye #2, and they’ll look their best thanks to the masterful work of Marco Chechetto!

Old Man Hawkeye #1 is on sale now.
