Kieron Gillen’s first story arc on Star Wars has been an exciting one that connects the original cast to the planet of Jedha. Star Wars fans will know this is an interesting twist, seeing as Jedha was created for the Rogue One film. Today’s issue closes out the story and finally seals the fate of Jedha forever.

So what’s it about?

Why does this matter?

It’s quite neat to see Han, Luke, Leia, and the rest interacting on a deteriorating Jedha. The planet was hit with the Death Star after all, and now it’s being mined for minerals to be used by the Empire. This issue also delves into what it means to be a Rebel queen, and no, I’m not talking about Leia!

Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Did she just ask for…

This issue wraps up the plots well and allows each of our main heroes (here it’s Han, Leia, and Luke) to finish a personal journey too. For Leia, it’s interacting with a queen who we all thought was pure evil, but finds hope. For Han, it’s leading when he’s always been a loner. For Luke, it’s about using courage and cunning to win in a one on one battle. Gillen ties these character moments well to the overall story, effectively ending the big climax in a way that’s fulfilling and rewarding.

The scene with Queen Trios is one of the best in the issue and it’s because it is reminiscent of Leia’s journey. I’ll say no more to avoid spoilers, but it’s a nice twist on the character and should get fans interested in her further adventures in future issues. Gillen has managed to give these characters interesting things to say in each issue that are introspective or help us understand how these characters grow and change between now and Empire Strikes Back.

Salvadore Larroca draws a good issue here with Trios looking exceptional — her face is vividly real. The characters throughout have photorealistic looks (some you’ll remember from the films) and he keeps the action looking cinematic.

She deserved it!

It can’t be perfect can it?

There is a point where Han takes charge and while this is clearly a sign he’s becoming more of a leader he comes off as slightly chauvinistic as he tells Leia what to do. It’s a turn I didn’t see coming and seems to warrant some outcry from Leia. Given her plan wasn’t the greatest I could see her siding with him, but it still struck me as odd.

Luke’s ability to win his battle is a bit unsatisfying. There’s a lot of build-up — and the villain makes a solid point about flamethrowers — but it ends more because Luke tricked him than outsmarted him. It is nice to see he’s thinking about strategy, however.

Is It Good?

This is a good end to the Jedha storyline that manages to offer fulfilling arcs for each character. There always seems to be an interesting thing said by these characters too, which will have you thinking.

Is it good?
A solid conclusion, especially for each character's story arc.
Manages to give each main character (Han, Luke, Leia) a bit of purpose and growth
Wraps things up in a tight way
Strong art that's photorealistic
Han tells Leia what to do and it seems off for their relationship and forced

Great
