Anime Boston: Funimation acquires license of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Sunrise announces two fan-favorites to be licensed through Funimation.

At Anime Boston this weekend Sunrise announced that Funimation has licensed the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion recap film trilogy.

For those of you not familiar, Sunrise Inc. is the company best known for the Mobile Suit Gundam series, Love Live! and Cowboy Bebop. Hideyuki Tomioka, the producer of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Mobile Suit Gudam the ORIGIN, Turn A Gundam and more, was on-site at Sunrise’s panel to share the news with fans.

The trilogy films will recap the entirety of both Code Geass series. That’s right folks, all 50 episodes. There’s loads of special features, never been seen scenes and the entire cast will be re-recording all their lines for the films.

Sunrise has also announced that Funimation will release the season 2 of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans on DVD/Blu-ray this summer. The series aired on Toonami last October, while the 25-episode first season premiered in Japan in October 2015, followed by the second season exactly one year later.

At this time no release date is available, but fans can expect an announcement with additional details regarding the films’ North American release in the near future.
