Its been 21 years since the original Spawn movie hit theaters and it has been nearly the same number of years Todd McFarlane has been talking about a follow film. Today, Todd McFarlane revealed on his Twitter that film is finally getting one step closer to becoming a reality. The star of the film is none other than Jaime Foxx and it’ll be directed by Todd McFarlane himself. Check out the tweet below to see for yourself.

Besides this being a great casting choice it also puts more weight behind this film getting off the ground. With a star in the leading role producers and backers will be lining up to help make this film a reality. Way back at SDCC 2017 McFarlane revealed via his Facebook account the new origin film Spawn was definitely being made, directed by him, and produced by horror film house Blumhouse. Fans will note Get Out was the last big hit from Blumhouse who is quite good at choosing good films to produce.
Now we wait to see if Spawn can not only deliver, but maybe even top the box office. There’s no word yet on when filming will begin, but McFarlane noted in his Deadline interview the movie is expected to have a $10 million to $12 million budget and be a dark R-rated realization of the character. McFarlane has also pointed out Spawn will be a character of very few words which is all the more reason the casting needed to be perfect. Not just any actor can infuse a character with life while remaining silent.
