First Man trailer: Gosling takes one small step for man

Academy Award winning director Damien Chazelle reteams with Ryan Gosling for the biopic.

Fresh off of his Academy Award win for Best Director in 2017 for La La Land, Damien Chazelle is returning with another exciting, probably award-worthy film in First Man. He reteams with half of La La Land‘s power couple, Ryan Gosling, to tell the story of Neil Armstrong aka the first man to walk on the moon.

The film is officially described as below:

On the heels of their six-time Academy Award®-winning smash, La La Land, Oscar®-winning director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling reteam for Universal Pictures’ First Man, the riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the years 1961-1969.  A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost–on Armstrong and on the nation–of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

Aside from Gosling, the impressive cast also includes Claire Foy (Unsane and the upcoming The Girl in the Spider’s Web), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Pablo Schreiber (Den of Thieves), Corey Stoll (Ant-Man) and Jason Clarke (Chappaquiddick). The film is written by Josh Singer, who has written such awards darlings as The Post and Spotlight.

With First Man, it appears Chazelle is applying his unique visual flair and tempo to a riveting event in American history. Combine that with Ryan Gosling playing a real life figure and the behind-the-camera pedigree and you can expect to see this film come up time and time again during awards season.
