Colt Cabana is suing CM Punk for unpaid legal fees resulting from the recent WWE doctor lawsuit

Punk’s legal woes are far from over as his former best friend sues for unpaid legal fees.

CM Punk’s acrimonious split from the pro wrestling world continues, now affecting some of his best friends. The Chicago Sun Times is reporting that Colt Cabana, real name Scott Colton, is suing Punk, real name Phil Brooks, for unpaid legal fees resulting from the lawsuit brought on by WWE doctor Chris Amann. Cabana claims Punk assured him he would take care of the fees while the trial was still going on, only to tell him he was “on his own” once the trial ended.

Cabana is the host of the Art of Wrestling podcast, the series that sparked a revolution of pro wrestling-based podcasts. Punk, who has been very good friends with Cabana dating back to their independent wrestling days in the early 2000s, was a guest on the show in November 2014, some ten months after he quit WWE, airing every grievance he had with the company and making some bold claims about the way WWE treats their talent. These claims resulted in a lawsuit from one of WWE’s doctors, Chris Amann, who attempted to sue Punk and Cabana for the resulting trauma caused (Amann lost).

According to the Sun Times, Punk told Cabana his legal fees would be “100% covered” in a text message, but has not made good on that promise, leaving Cabana with $513,736 in legal fees. Cabana is suing for $200,000 in general damages, along with $1 million in punitive and exemplary damages.

The lawsuit, which you can read below, says, “Brooks acted with fraud, malice and oppression toward Colton, with the deliberate intention of causing Colton harm.”

More on this as it develops, but it seems that CM Punk’s legal woes are far from over.
