Janus and WizardHyeong signed to Washington, D.C. Overwatch League team

Two former New York Excelsior talents find a new home in Washington, D.C.

The Washington, D.C. Overwatch League team has announced the signing of Song “Janus” Joon-hwa and Kim “WizardHyeong” Hyeong-seok.

Both Janus and WizardHyeong come to D.C. from the New York Excelsior. Janus is the first player signed by D.C. and WizardHyeong has signed as the team’s new head coach.

New York Excelsior announced the release of both Janus and WizardHyeong at the beginning of September. New York finished the inaugural Overwatch League season atop the standings with a record of 34 wins and 6 loses. Though despite their impressive performance, they were unable to make the Grand Finals.

“Head coach and tank are the two most important positions in Overwatch League. The entire style of the team flows from them. Both WizardHyeong and Janus are excited to help build one of the strongest teams in the Overwatch League and these signings are a powerful statement of our intentions to compete with the best.” said D.C. general manager Kate Mitchell.

Expansion teams have an exclusive window from Sep. 9 to Oct. 7 in which they can sign free agents. All Overwatch League teams will have the ability to sign free agents as of Oct. 8 and by Dec. 8 all teams are required to have a minimum of eight players on their roster.
