NYCC 2018: New Conan the Barbarian Series coming from Gerry Duggan

With the looming finale of Infinity Wars, many readers wonder where Gerry Duggan’s tenure with Marvel would go next.  Wonder no more, as Marvel unveiled Savage Sword of Conan at New York Comic Con, written by Gerry Duggan and drawn by Ron Garney with covers by Alex Ross.

This marks Marvel’s second foray into Conan comics, alongside Jason Aaron’s Conan the Barbarian in January 2019, since re-acquiring the character from Dark Horse Comics in January this year, and the first new Conan stories from the publisher since 2003.

NYCC 2018: New Conan the Barbarian Series coming from Gerry Duggan

Gerry Duggan has a long standing tenure with Marvel Comics, having just wrapped up runs on such beloved characters like Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool, making him a great choice to take over such a well-established character like Conan. Artist Ron Garney, on the other hand, has basically worked on every major super hero ever, making him an established creator well equipped to take on everyone’s favorite Cimmerian hero.

In addition to the new ongoing story arcs, each issue of Sword of Conan will feature additional auxiliary Conan stories called ‘Conan Novellas.’ Each novella will be three pages and will kick off with a 12 part story.

If you want to see what Conan was up to in his past Marvel stories, you can check out the recent Conan the Barbarian: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus Vol. 1. Duggan and Garney’s Sword of Conan debuts January 2019.  Are you excited to see Conan back at the House of Ideas?
