Harley Quinn #52 gets political as it reflects on the past and present

The latest issue makes you think.

SPOILERS ahead. You’ve been warned.

For all intents and purposes, Harley Quinn is a silly sort of character historically. When first introduced she was a sidekick that loved Joker out of insanity. Over the years, however, the character has grown a conscience and become an activist in helping others. In the latest issue (Harley Quinn #52, read our review) out today, writer Sam Humphries continues to add to the character’s meaningful storytelling with an interesting bit of dialogue.

The dialogue said by a Golden Age hero hits home in the current American political climate:

Harley Quinn #52 gets political as it reflects on the past and present

It’s sad to say Captain Triumph, but people are all arguing still today. Fascists exist once again. Oh, and those camps? Yeah, instead of the Japanese it’s Mexican children. Let that sink in.

Typical Harley changes the subject, never actually getting into the political conversation.

It’s safe to say, though, that Harley is speechless. Why remains to be seen.
