DC Vertigo cancels ‘Border Town’ amidst sexual assault allegations

DC sent a cancellation notice of Border Town to retailers.

DC today sent a cancellation notice of Border Town to retailers. Issues #5 and #6 will not be published and all previous issues are being made returnable. Additionally, all listings for the series have been removed from Diamond’s website.

In light of recent accusations against series writer Eric M. Esquivel, AiPT! reached out to DC for a statement regarding the series’ future. DC issued the following: “Today DC sent a cancellation notice of BORDER TOWN to retailers. Issues #5 and #6 will not be published and all previous issues are being made returnable.”

This follows yesterday’s news of artist Ramon Villalobos, and colorist Tamra Bonvillain each issuing statements  on Twitter that they will be leaving Border Town immediately.

The cancellation follows the public announcement of assaults allegations on December 9 by toy designer Cynthia Naugle on her Twitter account. Naugle’s account detailed a history of emotional and sexual abuse experienced at the hands of a person referred to as “X”, who works in the comic books industry and writes for DC Vertigo. While Naugle’s initial post made no direct reference to the abuser, the dots were quickly connected by fellow comic book industry community members, and it was reveled that the abuser was Border Town writer Eric M. Esquivel.

At this time neither DC Vertigo nor Esquivel, have issued a public statement on the allegations. Since the allegations were made public, Esquivel deleted all of his social media, excluding Twitter, which has been made private.

We will be providing updates on the situation as they become available.
