Eric M. Esquivel has been removed as co-writer from the upcoming Nightwing series set to be released in March 2019. In a statement released to retailers, DC Comics announced that Esquivel would no longer be co-writing Nightwing #58 with writer Scott Lobdell.
“Please note that Nightwing #58, soliciting in the January DC Previews, will no longer be co-written by Eric M. Esquivel.” said DC. “Watch for an announcement of the updated writing credits coming soon.”
The statement from DC was expected by many following the public announcement of assault allegations levied against Esquivel on December 9 by toy designer Cynthia Naugle via her Twitter account. In response to the abuse allegations, artist Ramon Villalobos, and colorist Tamra Bonvillain announced their departure from Border Town.
Two days after Villalobos and Bonvillain’s announcement, DC officially cancelled Border Town, but have yet to comment specifically on the allegations made against Esquivel.
Esquivel has recently responded to the allegations on his Twitter account.
