Netflix is kicking off the new year in a big way with the announcement that the third season of Stranger Things will launch on July 4, 2019.
The announcement came via the Stranger Things Twitter, in a video clip that’s a clever play on Dick Clark’s 1985 “Rockin’ New Year’s Eve” special. The local Hawkins television affiliate WIYZ tunes into the New Year’s Eve special, showing the crowd in Times Square preparing to celebrate the dropping of the ball. But the video becomes distorted with static and flips to a screen showing “Run Program: SilverCatFeeds.exe” being entered into a UNIX computer terminal. The video feed continues to flip back and forth between the two until you can hear Mike calling for Eleven and finally ending with the release date for the third season on July 4, 2019.
The Stranger Things Twitter also revealed the first poster for the new season, in which the Hawkins kids celebrate beneath a sky of fireworks with the caption “One summer can change everything.”

The third season is set a year after the events of the second season, in mid-1985. The friends have begun to drift apart as Mike and Eleven have developed a relationship, as well as Max and Lucas. The episode titles for the third season are:
1. “Suzie, Do You Copy?”
2. “The Mall Rats”
3. “The Case of the Missing Lifeguard”
4. “The Sauna Test”
5. “The Source”
6. “The Birthday”
7. “The Bite”
8. “The Battle of Starcourt”
The third season introduces several new characters: Maya Hawke cast as Robin, an “alternative girl” bored with her job who ends up stumbling onto one of the many secrets of Hawkins; Cary Elwes as the corrupt Mayor Kline; and Jake Busey as Bruce, a journalist for The Hawkins Post with “questionable morals.”
Created by Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalie Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Priah Ferguson, Cary Elwes, Jake Busey and Maya Thurman-Hawke.
