Evil can be one of the most compelling and intriguing parts of fiction. This is often exemplified in comics, and I’ve gotta agree with David Ayer (Suicide Squad) when he said ”DC Comics have the best villains ever”. So it only makes sense that, as The Hollywood Reporter reports, DC’s Year of the Villain arrives in May.
It’s a 25 cent comic preview of what’s coming in the next 12 months, with new stories from James Tynion IV (Justice League Dark), Scott Snyder (Justice League), Brian Michael Bendis (Superman), and all-star artists Francis Manapaul (The Flash), Jim Cheung (Young Avengers) and Alex Maleev (Daredevil).
It’ll continue Batman Who Laughs’ story for an unknown series debuting this Summer, as well as tying into continuing and future Justice League and Superman stories. Rather enticingly, the comic will preview an upcoming Batman story, with clues for the City of Bane confrontation between Batman and a number of his foes.
Year of the Villain’s main cover by Greg Capullo features Batman Who Laughs, Bane, Cheetah, Lex and another sinister figure. There’ll be a number of variant covers to choose from — one with BWL, another with Luthor and the last with Cheetah.
DC’s Year of the Villain drops May 1st, with Free Comic Book Day that weekend.
