‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ filming wraps; J.J. Abrams shares emotional cast photo

That’s a wrap.

Star Wars: Episode IX director J.J. Abrams took to Twitter today to announce that the final film in the Skywalker Saga has completed principle photography. Abrams shared a photo of cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac embraced in a group hug on set. The three are clearly brimming with emotion, with Isaac appearing to be on the verge of tears.

The set appears to be in a desert location which suggests the possibility the filming took place where the trilogy’s story all began — on the junk riddled planet of Jakku. Or could it be the planet Tatooine, birth place of the Skywalker bloodline?

“It feels impossible, but today wrapped photography on Episode IX,” Abrams said on Twitter. “There is no adequate way to thank this truly magical crew and cast. I’m forever indebted to you all.”

John Boyega also took to Twitter to reflect on the ending of principle photography, sharing the image Abrams tweeted, and his own heartfelt words.

This is only the second time Abrams has made mention of Episode IX since filming began in August of 2018. The first mention being an emotional tribute to Carrie Fischer, Rian Johnson, and the cast and crew.

We’re still waiting on a official title for the film from Disney. Rumors say beyond top Disney brass, J.J. Abrams is the only member of the cast and crew with knowledge of the title at this time. Hopefully they don’t make us wait until Star Wars Celebration for the title, which is being hosted in Chicago this year April 11-15.

Star Wars: Episode IX releases nationwide December 20, 2019.
