AEW’s deal for a weekly show on TNT ‘virtually done’

The American pro wrestling scene is heating up.

Rumors have been swirling for months around how All Elite Wrestling will present its product to the world. Now, a week before WarnerMedia’s upfront presentation, TheWrap reports that a deal with Turner Broadcasting to present a weekly show on TNT is “virtually done” and will be officially announced at the presentation.

Turner networks were once a hotbed for professional wrestling in the 1980s and 1990s, as Ted Turner was a huge fan of the sport, even purchasing World Championship Wrestling in the late ’80s. The network hosted WCW Monday Nitro, which for almost two years was the number one professional wrestling show in the world. TNT stopped airing wrestling following the demise of WCW in 2001.

This is exciting news for fans of pro wrestling, as WWE has had virtually no competition in the space of televised wrestling in almost two decades. Similarly to Ted Turner, AEW President and CEO Tony Khan, is a lifelong wrestling fan with billions of dollars.

AEW’s still-unnamed weekly show is set to air in the fall.
