There are a few films that are so nostalgic they’ll probably live on forever. Then there are niche films that not everyone has seen, but those who have are more die-hard than any other fan. I’m speaking of course of Dark Crystal fans. Thanks to the Dark Crystal Podcast via Empire Magazine we have our first look of the upcoming 10-episode series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance from Netflix.
As you might notice the effects are all practical and it nearly looks identical to the look and style of Jim Henson’s Dark Crystal. The series is aiming for a 2019 release date, but given images are appearing it might be sooner than we think.
Based on The Dark Crystal, Jim Henson’s groundbreaking 1982 feature film, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie, and realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects. The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.
