Cuphead is coming to Netflix as an animated comedy series

The award-winning, extremely difficult side-scroller transitions to television.

Netflix has announced that Cuphead will be adapted into a new comedic animated series called The Cuphead Show!.

The wildly popular and difficult side-scroller indie game has sold over 4 million copies worldwide since its 2017 release and won numerous awards, including Best Debut, Best Independent Game, and Best Art Direction at the 2017 Game Awards. Besides being known for its high level of difficulty, the game has garnered a lot of attention for its beautiful hand drawn animation.

StudioMDHR, the studio behind the development and publishing of Cuphead, announced the news on their Twitter account.

“The character-driven comedy follows the unique misadventures of the impulsive Cuphead and his cautious but easily swayed brother Mugman. Through their many misadventures across their surreal home of the Inkwell Isles, they’ve always got one another’s backs,” said Netflix in their official press release.

The series will be produced by Netflix Animation, with Dave Wasson (Mickey Mouse Shorts) and Cosmo Segurson (Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling) serving as co-executive producers alongside the game’s creators, Chad and Jared Moldenhauer.

There’s no word on when fans can expect the series to drop, but Netflix has already set up a landing page on their site for the series. Which would certainly seem premature unless the series is expected within a reasonable time frame.

Fans can play Cuphead today on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. New downloadable content is still in active development.
