Dutch actor, Rutger Hauer has died at the age of 75 after a brief illness. Hauer was born in the Netherlands in 1944 and went on to act in numerous films and television shows.
One of his most famous roles was in 1982 when he starred alongside Harrison Ford in Ridley Scott’s dystopian action film Blade Runner. He played Roy Batty, leader of the criminal replicants. Prior to Blade Runner, his career began in 1969 when he starred in a television series called Floris. Hauer went on to receive Golden Globe nominations for 1988’s Escape from Sobibor and 1995’s Fatherland. He played many quirky or villainous characters like the vampire Lothos in 1992’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a fairy grandfather in the series True Blood from 2013 -2014.
He passed on July 19th in his Netherlands home and his funeral was held today.
