Watch: Trailer for ‘Dolemite is My Name’

Eddie Murphy is back in full Murphy glory. Murphy will star in the Netflix biopic Dolemite is My Name, where he will play Rudy Ray Moore.

Rudy Ray Moore was a comedian, singer, film actor, director. Dolemite was also dubbed “the godfather of rap.” He created the character of Dolemite, one of the most famous of Blaxploitation genre. The trailer shows Murphy’s Moore seeking fame and bringing together black actors to get Dolemite off the ground. Dolemite was the kung-fu fighting, almost super-powered main character of Dolemite, The Return of Dolemite, and The Human Tornado.

Directed by Craig Brewer, the film stars as Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes, Mike Epps, Keegan-Michael Key, and Titus Burgess. Set in 1975, there are amazing fashions, hairstyles, and dialogue. The trailer shows a definite heart behind the Dolemite character, a quest for representation, the importance of making your own dreams come true.

Dolemite hits Netflix and select theaters this fall.
