Fox Searchlight has released the teaser trailer for Antlers and man, does it look terrifying! Based on the short story “The Quiet Boy” by Nick Antosca, the trailer wastes no time in establishing a creepy tone.
Jeremy T. Thomas plays Lucas Weaver, a small boy with a seemingly lonely existence. As he reads a story to his teacher Julia Meadows (played by Keri Russell), we see flashes of his life. We see he is bullied at school and he appears to be alone at home in very impoverished conditions. Russell’s expression of compassion and ultimately dread amplify the eeriness and tension building in the trailer.
The screenplay is written by Nick Antosca, C. Henry Chaisson, and Scott Cooper. In addition to writing, the film is directed by Cooper and produced by David Goyer, Miles Dale, and Guillermo Del Toro. Del Toro’s inspiration is clearly seen when a creature is revealed.
In addition to Russell and Thomas, the film also stars Jesse Plemons, Graham Greene, and Amy Madigan. Antlers is set to be released in 2020.
