First look at new Batman creative team James Tynion and Tony S. Daniel’s run reveals Deathstroke and Cheshire

First up on the menu for Batman in 2020 under the new creative team: the return of Deathstroke!

DC announced the new Batman creative team of writer James Tynion IV and artist Tony S. Daniel at the end of last month (set to take over when Tom King’s current run ends with issue #86); today, via The Hollywood Reporter, the covers and solicitations were revealed for the team’s first two issues (Batman #86 and #87), shedding some more light on what Tynion describes as “an epic story that pushes [Batman] to his absolute limits. I want to tell a Batman story like the kinds I grew up loving, one that embraces the horror and gothic elegance of Gotham and dives deep into Batman’s greatest villains.”

The Riddler has been lying low since his humiliating defeat as part of Bane’s army — but as costumed assassins start to make their way into Gotham City, Edward Nygma may have the answers he’s been looking for. Or at least, the answer to why Deathstroke is trying to kill him! Is it possible that Batman’s tussle with Slade Wilson was all just a ruse to get the killer closer to his true target?

What do you think of the covers/solicits for Batman #86 and #87? Are you looking forward to Tynion and Daniel’s run? Will you be sad to see Tom King’s run come to a conclusion? Sound off in the comments.
