15 years, dozens of false starts, and hundreds of thousands of Half-Life 3 memes since its predecessor, Valve is set to debut a new Half-Life game on this Thursday at 10AM PST.
The game, titled Half-Life: Alyx is, according to a Valve Software tweet posted today, a “flagship VR game.”
The news comes shortly after a bug in Half-Life 2 and the game’s episodic sequels related to NPCs not blinking (ouch!) was seemingly randomly squashed by Valve and, of course, relatively close to the recent release of Valve’s bespoke VR hardware: Valve Index, a product which might indicate a renewed corporate interest in producing games that push the boundaries of current conventions like Half-Life 1, 2, and even DOTA have before rather than just raking in cash hand-over-fist like Steam has allowed them to do for the past decade plus.
While we can presume the game will follow Half-Life 2‘s co-protagonist Alyx, given the title, where this fits in the Half-Life franchise’s storied timeline, how much it will cost, or how satisfying it will be to fans who have been waiting a very, very…very long time for any news at all is currently unknown.
Check out the official Valve tweet below and sound off in the comments with all those good good pent up Half-Life feelings.
