‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ brings Ghostbusting to the countryside

Something strange is happening in Oklahoma.

The debut trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife has arrived. Jason Reitman’s upcoming ghost story is a sequel to the original two Ghostbusters films and leaves the streets of Manhattan behind to bring ghostbustin’ to the corn fields of Oklahoma.

The latest adventure in the Ghostbusters franchise tells us that ghosts and supernatural phenomenon haven’t been seen in this universe since the New York incident in the ’80s. But it looks like that’s all about to change when a struggling single mom and her two kids arrive in a small Oklahoma town and begin to uncover a family connection to the original ghostbusters (almost definitely Egon Spengler) and the growing paranormal activity within the town.

Reitman’s film takes place in the original Ghostbusters universe and has no ties to 2016’s Ghostbusters: Answer The Call, which exists in a different universe and was attacked by countless insecure men who were really angry that a group of funny women got cast in a movie that had roots in a male driven film.

A number of Ghostbusters alumni have been confirmed to appear in Afterlife: Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd as Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett, and Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will hit theaters on July 10, 2020.
