Sunday evening a new chapter was penned in the IMPACT and women’s wrestling history books when Tessa Blanchard defeated Sami Callihan to win the Impact World Championship at Hard to Kill. Blanchard sealed her historic victory with a buzzsaw DDT for the pinfall.
Blanchard’s win is unprecedented in that she’s the first woman to ever win a major wrestling company’s top title of a division that’s traditionally composed of men only. The new champion earned her opportunity at a title shot in November after surviving a grueling gauntlet match.
Callahin and Blanchard have been building to this match over the past several months with a bitter rivalry that has crossed the borders of their respective divisions.
Blanchard recently made headlines over the past weekend after a number of female wrestlers alleged that she often bullied and kept down other talent, as well as made racist remarks.
