In a move that disappointed many, but surprised few, Twitch announced Friday afternoon that TwitchCon Amsterdam has been cancelled to protect the health and safety of staff and attendees due to growing concerns of the spread of coronavirus.
The sold-out Twitch event was scheduled to take place May 2-3, 2020 at the AI Amsterdam Convention Centre. The con provides fans with the opportunity to meet some of Europe’s most popular streamers, experience panels, learn tips and tricks of the Twitch trade, and more. Sadly TwitchCon joins an ever growing list of events that have been cancelled due to the spread of coronavirus.
“TwitchCon is the best weekend to be a Twitch fan,” said Twitch in a statement on Twitter. “To say we’re disappointed you won’t be able to enjoy the show we’ve been building for you is a massive understatement. But the health and safety of our community, employees, and everyone else who has a part in making TwitchCon happen is, as always, our top priority.”

Twitch has assured fans that purchased tickets that full refunds will be issued over the next few weeks. Exhibitors and sponsors of the event will be offered priority slots at TwitchCon San Diego on the weekend of September 25-27, 2020 or next year’s European event.
