The second episode of Top Chef served as an homage to the late food critic, Jonathan Gold, and to the Los Angeles culinary scene. Instead of a quickfire challenge, the contestants visited different neighborhoods of the city to indulge in the local eats that were included in Gold’s last “101 Best Restaurants List”. Afterwards, in the elimination challenge, the chefs were to create a dish inspired by their day’s experiences and serve it for 200 guests at a party celebrating Gold and his legacy.
When it was all said and done, Kevin won the elimination challenge moving him to the top spot. Nini’s top 3 finish propelled her up the chart as the highest riser and Angelo falls all the way to the bottom after being eliminated from the competition and Last Chance Kitchen.
