Final Fantasy XII update introduces job reset option and more

The new update arrives for PC and PS4 versions of the game.

Square Enix dropped an exciting update for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age on PC and PlayStation 4 today. Update 1.0.4.0 introduces several long asked for features that the Xbox One and Switch versions have had for some time now. The most notable new features being the Job reset function, which allows you to easily change jobs mid-game, the Gambit system being expanded to 3 sets, and the removal of Denuvo DRM from the PC version.

A character’s job is essentially their class, which in turn defines their role in battle. So for instance, a player could have one character set up as a Knight and Black Mage (characters can have two jobs at once) and then change their mind and remake them into a Time Battlemage and Priest. Whereas in the past once you assigned Jobs to a character they were permanent.

The Gambit system allows players to program actions into their party’s decision making process when certain circumstances occur in battle. For instance, if a specific character drops below a certain threshold, another character will automatically cast a healing spell on them. The number of Gambits allowed has been increased to 3 and you can now switch between Gambits at will during combat.

If you’re not familiar with FFXII, Square Enix describes the game as such:

Enter an era of war within the world of Ivalice. The small kingdom of Dalmasca, conquered by the Archadian Empire, is left in ruin and uncertainty. Princess Ashe, the one and only heir to the throne, devotes herself to the resistance to liberate her country.

Vaan, a young man who lost his family in the war, dreams of flying freely in the skies. In a fight for freedom and fallen royalty, join these unlikely allies and their companions as they embark on a heroic adventure to free their homeland.

Players both returning and new to the game will be immersed in a grand adventure that spans the world of Ivalice in an entirely fresh and improved experience.

Players have also gained the ability to choose between the original in-game soundtrack and a new re-orchestrated soundtrack.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
