Marvel has unveiled another batch of variant covers for Amazing Spider-Man #1000, offering fans a fresh look at the milestone issue ahead of its September release.
Arriving in comic shops on September 16, the landmark issue marks a major turning point in Joe Kelly’s current run while celebrating Spider-Man’s legacy with a collection of anniversary stories from legendary creators.
Marvel also clarified that the issue will feature two primary covers. One is a painted collaboration between John Romita Jr. and Paolo Rivera, while the other is an all-new cover by current Amazing Spider-Man artist Pepe Larraz. According to editor Nick Lowe, the second cover was added to further emphasize the significance of issue #1000 and bring together as many iconic Spider-Man artists as possible.
“What a pleasure it’s been to see readers celebrate my work on Amazing Spider-Man over the years,” Romita Jr. said. “I’m honored to work on yet another milestone issue for Spidey, and this one is especially big.”
Larraz reflected on the opportunity by saying that if someone had told him as a child he would one day draw Amazing Spider-Man #1000 alongside John Romita Jr., believing in time travel would have been easier than believing the prediction.
Today’s reveal also showcases an impressive lineup of new variant covers, including a foil homage by Ed McGuinness inspired by Amazing Spider-Man #100, a new piece by Skottie Young, a cover by J. Scott Campbell, Ryan Stegman’s first look at the new villain Ravage, and the concluding installment of Lee Bermejo’s Amazing Visions cover series.
Marvel also debuted Giuseppe Camuncoli’s variant cover highlighting “Of Webs and Six-Guns,” an anniversary story written by Spider-Man legend Larry Lieber. Rounding out the reveal are a Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls variant starring Peni Parker and a Marvel Animation variant celebrating the classic 1967 Spider-Man animated series.
Marvel has confirmed that additional talent announcements, story details, and cover reveals for Amazing Spider-Man #1000 will be shared in the weeks ahead.
