Sony finally revealed how the PlayStation 5 console will look on today’s PS5 Reveal livestream, showing off a slick video showing off the console, the DualSense controller and charging station, a Pulse 3D Wireless Headset, and a Media Remote.
We’ve known about the DualSense controller for some time now, but it’s great to finally see what the console itself looks like. The design itself is striking and certainly unique, building upon the sharp angles presented in the DualSense controller and providing a contrast to the Xbox Series X in both color and industrial design.
Interestingly, two consoles were shown side by side — the PlayStation 5, and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. The two consoles look nearly identical, except the Digital Edition lacks a disc drive, suggesting gameplay will be via download only on that version.
The Pulse 3D Wireless Headset is an accessory to keep your eye on, as Sony is making a big bet on 3D Audio this generation. 3D audio is the ability for objects in the game environment to become its own sound source rather than the game simply playing a series of audio samples, providing a far more realistic and immersive experience. Paired with a headset to take full advantage of it, the result could be game-changing.
No details as far as an exact release date or price was discussed, but Sony promises they still have much to show us as the Holiday 2020 release schedule approaches.
