ABC launching sitcom about raising a non-binary child

The show will be part of the network’s 2020-2021 primetime lineup.

ABC has ordered episodes of a new family comedy for their 2020-2021 season, according to a Deadline report: a single-camera sitcom from Kapital Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV that will follow two parents, Ted and Mandy, as they raise a non-binary, genderfluid child in Los Angeles.

Writer Chad Gervich is handling the script for the show, which is still untitled, and the project is reportedly based on his personal experience. Gervich is largely known for his work in the reality TV space, including Food Network’s Cake Wars, Disney Channel’s Dog With a Blog and MTV’s Double Shot at Love with DJ Pauly D & Vinny.

Executive producer Lesley Wake Webster will be supervising Gervich, and the two will be executive producers along with Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor.
