HBO Max announces Gotham police procedural TV show set in ‘The Batman’ universe

The Batman movie is not yet here, but HBO Max is already making moves to expand the universe.

HBO Max announced today an original series commitment to a police procedural TV show set in Gotham and helmed by The Batman director Matt Reeves, Boardwalk Empire creator Terrence Winter, The Batman producer Dylan Clark and Warner Bros. Television. In a press release posted on dccomics.com, the show will be just part of the “process launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms.”

Fans looking forward to The Batman–which is slated for October 2021–should be very excited by this TV show as it will, “extend the world established in The Batman and further explore the myriad of compelling and complex characters of Gotham.” While it seems like an odd time to greenlight a police TV show I will admit if it’s based on Gotham Central by Greg Rucka, Ed Brubaker, and Michael Lark, I’m totally in.
