Variety has the scoop on Stan Sakai’s beloved character Usagi Yojimbo getting the Netflix series treatment. The show is ordered and on the way and will be produced by James Wan who most recently directed Aquaman at Warner Bros. Sakai will also produce with Gaumont on the project which will be a CGI animated series titled Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles.
Sakai has been making Usagi Yojimbo comics since 1984 and many fans who grew up in the 80s will note the character got his own action figure thanks to the Ninja Turtles. First teaming up in a pinup by Stan Sakai in 1985, Usagi and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have had a long history of appearing together in animated television shows and comics too. Now the samurai bunny will get his day in the sun.
