Jae Lee has taken to Instagram to respond to a firestorm of responses after Tom King tweeted on Friday about his “deep disappointment” around a variant cover Lee drew for the Rorschach comic book. After DC Comics revealed the variant cover in the morning, King took to Twitter a few hours later to voice his concern as he Tweeted Jae Lee has, “…also done covers for comicsgate, a hate group.” Later, King cleared the air by saying he spoke to Lee and confirmed Lee didn’t even know Comicsgate existed.
In the Instagram post, Lee said he was attempting to put his recently deceased dog Loki to rest when messages came flooding in “out of strangers’ mouths, accusing me of things I have no knowledge of.” Lee writes, “I’m seeing first hand how fast lies are spreading. Let me be clear, I’m not part of ANY group.” Further, Lee writes, “I’m writing this because I’m angry. These irresponsible tweets are not harmless. They do not just go away. They have real world consequences. They can take away your job. Your life.”
