In a genre film festival, it can sometimes be hard to stand apart from all the other movies. Fried Barry is one of the craziest participants at this year’s Fantasia Film Festival. The story is about a heroin addict whose body gets taken over by an alien. The already trouble Barry now has a whole new set of problems. And things only get stranger from there.
Fried Barry sounds like a science fiction horror, but it goes much deeper. It has elements of comedy and can even be seen as a coming of age story. Director Ryan Kruger talks with AIPT’s Regina Chavez Muir about inspirations, meanings in movies, and their shared love of the 80s.
