Everything announced at Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

Nintendo announced a slew of new releases, re-releases, and collectibles to celebrate Mario’s 35th birthday.

Nintendo held its much-anticipated Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct today, announcing a slew of new games, ports, and collectibles all in celebration of the release of Super Mario Bros. on the Famicom/NES 35 years ago this month. Let’s get right into everything that was announced!

Super Mario 3D All-Stars

Maybe most exciting is the announcement of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a collection of three games: Super Mario 64Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy, originally released on the Nintendo 64, GameCube, and Wii consoles respectively. Nintendo is promising “HD visuals” for each of the games. Don’t expect a full remake or new textures, but the games should run silky smooth on your Switch.

Additionally, Super Mario 3D All-Stars will include an in-game music-player mode to play the music and songs from all three games, similar to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The best news is, Super Mario 3D All-Stars will be available for purchase in just two weeks, on September 18!

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Super Mario 3D World is making its way to the Nintendo Switch as well. Originally released in 2013 on the Wii U, 3D World combines the free movement of Mario’s 3D adventures with the more linear tracks of the series’ 2D installments.

This re-release of the game also includes Bowser’s Fury, though Nintendo didn’t give many details on what that is. It can be assumed to be a DLC of some sort.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit brings Mario Kart from the Mushroom Kingdom to the real world, allowing players to use their Switch to control a physical cart, similar to an old RC car with an AR twist.

Home Circuit comes in both Mario and Luigi versions, and will launch on October 16.

Super Mario Bros. 35

Super Mario Bros. 35 gives a Mario spin on the battle royale format. 35 players will play against one another in a competitive version of the original NES classic, and only one will come out as the winner. There will be new special items to inflict harm on your opponents, and players who are defeated are sent to other player’s courses. Last Mario standing wins.

Super Mario Bros. 35 will be a free download for Nintendo Switch Online members starting October 1. It will only be playable until March 31, 2021.
