As this particularly tumultuous year comes to an end we have discussed the most overlooked movies of the year. AIPT has also released a list of the worst movies of 2020. This year’s films have not just been ignored or awful, however. There have also been plenty of movies that film fans need to rush out and see. Here is a list of the best movies of 2020.

The Vast of Night, The Debt Collectors, Weathering With You – “Debt Collectors is a pleasure – a buddy dramedy with two compelling actors playing two compelling characters, and creative, well-choreographed action scenes.”
Juli Cabot
Possessor, Save Yourselves!, Palm Springs – This was a good year for genre-bending science fiction and horror films, which most of my favorites this year are. I’m not usually one for comedy, but when you combine it with science fiction, I’m in. Both Palm Springs and Save Yourselves! meshed comedy brilliantly with existential dread. Possessor left me completely in awe. A spiritual successor to both Videodrome and Terminator; body horror at it’s finest.

Onward – While a movie like this might be overshadowed in a normal year, Onward was a strong pick for the best film I saw this year. It’s plot may be familiar with its usual road trip formula, the heart and character of it is what makes the film really shine. Combined with beautiful animation, Onward was a lovely film that is definitely worth a watch for the whole family.

The Prom, Uncle Frank, Jingle Jangle – The Prom was simply the best experience I had watching a film in 2020, it gave me everything I wanted! Uncle Frank is my second favorite film of the year, this is a film that was so beautifully acted and written… one that I feel everyone should see. And coming in at number three is Jingle Jangle – one of the best Christmas films I’ve ever seen!
