Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 01/18/2021

Real life spies and dark teen drama.

This week, the Channel Surfing TV picks include an intriguing docuseries and a couple of teen dramas. Learn the secrets and tales of world class espionage in Spycraft. Archie and his crew finish up high school before experiencing a time jump in Riverdale. Then watch how Jules spent her winter break in the second Euphoria special.

Where Does He Get Those Wonderful Toys?

Anyone who’s watched a James Bond film will marvel at all the cool toys and gadgets he uses while going undercover as a super spy. But how is the espionage game in real life? The new Netflix docuseries, Spycraft, will feature actual stories of the world’s most celebrated spies and their work.

Not only will the show cover the spies, but it will also provide closer looks at the technologies used and the people who developed them. Although we might not see jetpacks, a Geiger counter watch, or an invisible car, I’m sure the real tech will be as interesting and creative.

Spycraft will be available on Netflix this Wednesday, January 20.

High School and Beyond

The CW’s darker take on the characters from Archie Comics is set to return this week. The last season of Riverdale was cut short due to the pandemic so the early part of season five will properly conclude the “auteur” mystery and have the gang graduate from high school.

Later, in order to mix things up, the show will jump ahead seven years and follow the gang in their mid-twenties. In that time, a lot has changed with several of the main characters in new relationships. Also, expect to be introduced to fresh new faces in this world and of course, drama.

The season five premiere of Riverdale will air on The CW this Wednesday, January 20.

Holidays from the Other Side

If you didn’t catch your fill of dark teen drama with Riverdale, well you’re in luck. Later this week, the second Euphoria special will debut on HBO.

While the first special followed Rue and how she spent her Christmas, this one will feature Jules during her holidays and her reflecting on the past year. Actress, Hunter Schafer, who plays Jules, serves as an executive producer of the episode which she co-wrote with series creator, Sam Levinson.

Catch the second Euphoria special, entitled “F*ck Anyone Who’s Not A Sea Blob”, on Sunday, January 24.
