On Friday, Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that Steve Spielberg and the Duffer Bros. (Stranger Things) will be adapting the 1984 fantasy novel The Talisman into a series for Netflix.
The novel, written by Stephen King and Peter Straub, involves a young boy going on a quest across the Unites States in search of a talisman to save his dying mother. As you might imagine, plenty of danger and supernatural occurrences happen along the way.
As for the upcoming Netflix series, the Duffer Bros. will executive produce along with Spielberg, who bought the screen rights to The Talisman two years before the book was even released. Stranger Things writer/producer Curtis Gwinn will serve as showrunner.
The Talisman is one of King’s books that I haven’t gotten to yet, but judging by fellow Constant Readers‘ reactions to this on social media, the story has all types of potential to be great on screen–especially with the talent behind it.
