‘Echo’ Marvel series in the works at Disney+

The character Echo will be entering the MCU via the upcoming ‘Hawkeye’ series.

On Tuesday, Jordan Moreau of Variety exclusively revealed that a series featuring the Marvel character Echo is in the early development stages for Disney+. The show would spin out of the upcoming Hawkeye series, which includes Echo (played by Alaqua Cox) as part of its cast.

In the comics, Echo (whose actual name is Maya Lopez) has “photographic reflexes” which give her the ability to copy anyone’s movements…so basically the same skill set as Taskmaster. She’s also deaf, a trait Lopez shares with the comic version of Hawkeye (and quite possibly the MCU version after the new series airs).

She was also the first character to wear the badass looking Ronin outfit that we saw Hawkeye/Clint Barton wearing for less than a minute in Avengers: Endgame.

As far as crossover potential is concerned, Maya Lopez was romantically involved with Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil) for a while, but I was never a huge fan of that relationship.

What I am a fan of, however, is the chance to see Echo kicking ass in the Marvel Cinematic Universe–especially if having her own series ups the chances of her going head to head with Taskmaster at some point.
