After months of everyone saying they could not wait for 2021, it turns out things do not automatically get better by flipping the page of a calendar. South by Southwest is a great example. Last year, the popular event had to be cancelled to do the pandemic. Organizers were able to make sure SXSW happened this year, but it was a strictly online event.
Things may not have gotten back to “normal”, but this did not prevent it from being a success. The fest screened a feature films, documentaries, and shorts. Genres included true crime, comedy, and horror. In other words, there was something for everybody – just like any other SXSW. Movie Editor Nathaniel Muir and Contributors Juli Cabot and Regina Chavez Muir talk about some of their favorites from the fest.
SXSW was about more than just films, however, The three also discuss their biggest takeaways from the festival, including inclusivity and how well the virtual experience went.
