It’s all about the Hellfire Gala for comic book fans this week as Marvel has revealed most of the fashion-forward looks of the X-Men and now the Hellfire Gala Guide is available to read. Free in comic book shops and digitally, the guide features an interview with Emma Frost, all the looks revealed so far, and a few new ones, as well as an introduction by Marvel Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski.
Speaking of Cebulski, he talks about what is in store for fans when the Hellfire Gala kicks off, including a surprise that has yet to be teased. In the introduction, he writes, “The new team of X-Men will be unveiled, treaties and trade deals will be brokered and one absolutely monumental announcement that you cannot miss will be made.” We already know who will be on the X-Men team, but as far as trade deals and a can’t miss a monumental moment…well that’s new.
The Emma Frost interview is revealing as well. Interviewed by Ben Urich from the Daily Bugle, Frost confirms enemies of Krakoa are invited to the Gala including Doctor Doom. She also seems to talk around the idea that Krakoan drugs are being sold to enemies of the state on the black market. I recommend reading the entire interview to see if any tidbits strike you as revealing, like how there may be a new X-Men fashion book on the way this fall.
Much of the free guide features the fashion designed by Jumbo with some helpful explanation on a few of the characters. Hinted at by Emma in the interview, the pages smartly read as if they are from Jumbo’s soon-to-be-released fashion book.
It’s also worth noting all of the designs have artist attribution, like Valeria Schiti’s above and Lucas Werneck below.
The guide ends with a “Program of Events” section. This is more of a preview guide of what is to come which we’ve seen before and will also be printed as a preview in comics next week.
