On Friday, Borys Kit of the Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that Issa Rae has joined the voice cast of Sony’s upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Although not confirmed by Sony, Kit also revealed that Rae will be voicing Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman.
For fellow Spider-Woman fans like myself, it’s awesome news to hear that she’ll be joining what was already a fantastic collection of Spider-Folks. It’s also good to know that Drew will be in good hands.
Although Issa Rae doesn’t have a lot of genre work under her belt, she’s a fantastic award winning actress who currently stars in the HBO series Insecure. If you’ve seen her there (or in most of the other projects she’s been a part of), then you know Rae has the comedic timing to absolutely nail Jessica Drew’s voice.
The untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is currently slated to be released on October 7, 2022.
