Battlefield 2042 announced for an October 2021 release

Get your wingsuits ready.

DICE’s Battlefield series is heading to the future.

Battlefield 2042 is the next entry in the long-running FPS series. It will be multiplayer-only, meaning it won’t ship without campaign or battle royale modes. The multiplayer will support 64-player matches on last-gen consoles and up to 128 on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

There will be three gameplay “pillars” to Battlefield 2042, All Out Warfare, Hazard Zone, and an unnamed third pillar. All Out Warfare includes Conquest and Breakthrough modes, which sound like variations on your standard team deathmatch fares. You can head over to the PlayStation Blog for more information about Battlefield 2042‘s gameplay, like it’s dynamic and destructive weather, wingsuits, Specialist classes, and the game’s seven maps.

Battlefield 2042 will cost $60 on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC and for $70 on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S for the base game. Battlefield 2042 is an EA game, meaning you can expect a heavy dose of post-launch DLC. The Gold Edition for $90 on PC and $100 on console nets you the Year One pass, which includes four seasons of DLC and three skin bundles. For $110 on PC and $120 on console you can get the Ultimate Edition. It comes with the same content as the Gold as well as a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, and the Midnight Ultimate Bundle, a cosmetic skin pack of “legendary” items.

An alpha will be playable in July for random long-time Battlefield players. Be on the lookout for an email from DICE or EA to see if you’re one of the lucky few to be selected. A beta is confirmed for sometime prior to the game’s launch. Players who preorder will have early access to 2042‘s beta.

Battlefield 2042 will release on October 22, 2021. You can watch the review trailer below.
