On Wednesday, Hasbro’s Star Wars team held an ‘I Am Your Father’ livestream for its huge slate of new figures releasing just in time for Father’s Day (which is June 20, in case any of you started to panic).
Let’s take a look at the Vintage Collection first, which had a long overdue good day of reveals. This wave is primarily made up of characters from The Mandalorian, which is also overdue for the Vintage Collection line. Each figure will retail for $13.99 and will be available for preorder this afternoon from your preferred retailer (unless it’s noted as an exclusive).
Bo Katan
For this fantastic looking figure, Hasbro decided to go with a swappable helmet and head rather than make a removable helmet so that the proportions didn’t look wonky. I’m not sure if I’d like that on the Black Series figure, but it works here. Also, it’s hard to tell from the pictures, but she comes with a jetpack, as well.
This one is an obvious must buy for most folks, myself in included.
Mythrol
This is one of those figures that I probably wouldn’t buy in 6″ scale Black Series, but will definitely be picking up as part of the 3.75″ Vintage Collection–especially when it comes with all those cool accessories.
Still wish he had a name that was something more imaginative than his alien race, though.
Kuiil
In addition to being a great looking figure, Kuiil’s release means it’s only a matter of time before we finally get a 3.75″ scale blurrg.
Now let’s check out couple other releases along with what’s next in line for the Vintage Collection’s production team.
Hoth Rebel Trooper
You gotta love it when a great army builder gets a rerelease with a Photo Real update–especially when it’s based on the classic/original version.
Fan Vote Winner: Republic Trooper
I’ve already expressed my disappointment that this won the fan vote over the Weequay Skiff guard. That being said, I’m glad for the folks who didn’t get to snag this very good figure the first time it was offered.
If that includes you, then the Republic Trooper will be available today for preorder exclusively from Hasbro Pulse and ShopDisney.com.
Pipeline Reveals
Finally…FINALLY we are getting an updated Bib Fortuna from Return of the Jedi. My Sail Barge still won’t be complete, but it’ll feel a heck of a lot closer (even without an updated Weequay).
We also are getting an updated Lobot along with a Navarro Cantina play set for our Mandalorian figures!
So yeah…plenty of good stuff to be excited about with the Vintage Collection, which honestly hasn’t been the case since the Haslab Razorcrest was successfully funded.
Speaking of the Razorcrest, the Hasbro team shared a great photo of Jon Favreau geeking out over one. The massive vehicle is currently in the final stages of production and just about ready to ship out to backers.
Now let’s take a look at what’s available and coming for the Black Series line. Each figure will retail for $22.99 (bleh) and will be available at most online retailers except for couple of Target exclusives (BLEH).
For this wave, it’s Rogue One that gets the big spotlight. Each figure will be packed in Rogue One crew themed packaging, which looks pretty cool even to an opener like me.
We’ll start things off with a figure many of us have been waiting for.
Boodhi Rook
Bodhi Rook finally gets a proper action figure. In addition to having a great facial likeness of Riz Ahmed, it’s a completely new sculpt. The figure also comes with a cool working grappling line accessory so you can recreate one of the most heroic and tragic moments in Star Wars history.
Now let’s take a look at the re-releases.
K-2SO
Nothing really new here except for paint apps on the eyes being screen accurate. Definitely not worth buying the figure again unless that really bugs you.
Chirrut Îmwe
Same great accessories and articulation, and a much improved facial portrait from the last release.
Baze Malbus
Once again, another fantastic upgrade in the facial portrait department that also maintains the great sculpt/accessories of the previous release. Also, I could just be projecting this, but the weather on Baze’s clothes looks better on this release, too.
Cassian Andor
Considering that the previous version of this figure looked like a failed arts and craft project, an update was badly needed–especially with a new series about Cassian Andor coming out soon. Thankfully, this one looks pretty good.
Jyn Erso
Another figure that was in dire need of an update from its original release. The portrait is definitely improvement, although it still feels a little “off.” That being said, it’s still more than good enough for me to snag one and replace the previous version that currently sits on my Star Wars toy shelf.
Now let’s move on from the Rogue One crew to a couple of other major characters from that film.
Galen Erso
The facial portrait isn’t terrible, but if Mads Mikkelsen sold Hasbro his likeness rights, then they definitely aren’t getting their money’s worth.
Thankfully, this one is a Target exclusive, so you likely wouldn’t have been able to preorder it, anyway.
Antoc Merrick
My favorite pilot in the entire Star Wars franchise–yes, even over Wedge (don’t @ me). It’s a great looking figure, but I don’t really collect pilots in this scale. Combat that with it being a Target Exclusive, and it looks like General Merrick won’t be reporting to my toy shelf unless I happen to see him on a Target run later this year.
Now let’s take a look at what’s coming up for the Black Series toyline.
Pipeline Reveals
Is my Vintage Collection-loving self jealous that the Black Series is getting Cobb Vanth, Mayfield, Fennec Shand, and Noma Boba Fett first?
Yes.
Will I still be buying these figures for my Star Wars shelf?
Absolutely.
The Rogue One stormtrooper sounds like a redundant figure, but Bib Fortuna could be all types of cool if they get the sculpt right.
The Hasbro team also said that the next Star Wars-based HasLab project won’t be for the Vintage Collection and won’t be a vehicle. My money/hope is a on a massive 6″ scale rancor.
We’ll finish things off with a quartet of reveals for the Black Series Archive line featuring updating paint apps and facial deco for some hard to find previous releases.

Obi-Wan Kenobi
