Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut announced for PS4 and PS5

Head to Iki Island in the new Ghost of Tsushima expansion, releasing August 20.

In a blog post today, Sucker Punch announced their smash-hit Ghost of Tsushima is getting an expansion as well as a release on the PlayStation 5 on August 20.

The main draw of the Director’s Cut is the Iki Island expansion. It’ll include a new area for Jin to explore, new armor to don, new techniques, and new enemies. “[Jin] finds himself caught up in events with deeply personal stakes that will force him to relive some traumatic moments from his past,” Sucker Punch writes. They also promise updates to the Legends multiplayer, including a new mode, but these will be announced at a later date.

PS5 players have a lot to look forward to with the Director’s Cut. Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, 4K resolution, improved audio, better load times, higher framerate, and — maybe most importantly — Japanese lip sync for cutscenes. This’ll make playing in Kurosawa mode all the more engaging.

The Director’s Cut of Ghost of Tsushima will cost $59.99 on the PS4 and $69.99 on the PS5. Sucker Punch detailed multiple ways to purchase the Director’s Cut content for those who have already purchased the base game:

If you already own Ghost of Tsushima on PS4:

  • You can pre-order an upgrade to Director’s Cut on PS4 for $19.99 USD. This upgrade will become available starting on August 20.

Starting on August 20:

  • If you bought Director’s Cut PS4, you’ll be able to upgrade to Director’s Cut PS5 at any time for $9.99 USD
  • You can also upgrade directly (from original Ghost of Tsushima PS4) to Director’s Cut on PS5 for $29.99 USD

Check out the graphic below for all the goodies the Director’s Cut has to offer, as well as a trailer for the new content. And while you wait for the Iki Island expansion to drop, you can enjoy a return to Tsushima this month to celebrate the game’s one-year anniversary.
