Marvel confirms Joe Bennett no longer working on future projects after ‘Immortal Hulk’

Marvel has revealed they are cutting ties with Joe Bennett.

In a statement sent to AIPT, Marvel Comics has confirmed Joe Bennett is no longer a part of the Timeless project, and he is not on any future Marvel projects. Marvel Comics has moved forward with a new creative team on Timeless, an upcoming one-shot by Jed MacKay, Mark Bagley, Kev Walker, and Greg Land. Based on the creative team update on Timeless today, it appears Land will be replacing Bennett on the title.

This news comes a week after writer Al Ewing took to Twitter vowing to not work with Joe Bennett again as more antisemitic work resurfaced. Ewing described the image–which he did not share–as depicting “an armored swordsman, which I assume represents Bolsonaro given Joe’s commentary, slaughtering tiny, scurrying people, with the buck teeth and ears of rats. And big noses.”

Ewing and Bennett have collaborated on Immortal Hulk for the last three years with the series wrapping up with Immortal Hulk #50 on October 13th.

Bennett’s work has reflected antisemitism in the past as earlier this year, Bennett issued an apology for a panel in Immortal Hulk with offensive background imagery. In a threat of Tweets, Ewing responded to that and reflected on this not being the first time something like this has come up.
