Last minute gift ideas for the movie fan in your life

There’s still time!

There is still a couple of weeks before Christmas gets here, but things are already tight. Online orders are taking a little longer to arrive and finding gifts in stores is getting more difficult. Making things harder is when you are looking for something specific. For example, what do you get for that movie fan in your circle of friends? Even as the specter of Christmas gets closer, there is plenty to get. Here are some last minute gift ideas.

When it comes to buying for movie lovers, it’s hard to know what they have or haven’t seen, or what they are looking for to add to their collection. If you know you’re shopping for an A24 fan, the genre studio has some great gifts available. Any of these coffee table books would make a great gift for the movie lover in your life – there’s even a hardcover version of the 150-tweet story that became Zola, by A’Ziah King.

Another great gift for horror movie fans is the game Betrayal At House on the Hill. It’s a game that plays out like a horror movie. You can find it just about anywhere board games are sold, including TargetLast idea: I always think it’s a great idea to support your local artists when it comes to buying gifts. You can search Etsy for artists near you – here is one of my local favorites creating pop-culture inspired ornaments, KnottyPop, and AlexStitchins has some great horror-movie inspired cross-stitches.

There are many titles that I love and could recommend for buying. Since it’s the holidays I’m going to recommend two Christmas films that I think are underrated.

One is a film that was disliked by many but I really enjoy it and watch it every Christmas. That film is 2004’s Christmas with The Kranks. This is a lighthearted holiday film that brings with it an abundance of warmth and Christmas cheer.

The other Christmas film is 2000’s The Family Man starring Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni. This Christmas film is a delightful treat that always gets me both in my feels and in the holiday spirit. This is also the film that made me a big Tea Leoni fan.

When it comes to indie studios and genre movies, most people think of A24 – and for good reason. The studio has released some of the best horror films in recent years. But there is another studio out there that is home to some stuff that genre fans should enjoy. This year alone, Neon has released Pig and Titane. Recent years have seen movies like Palm Springs, Possessor. Their biggest claim to fame is probably the history-making Parasite. There is sure to be something in their catalogue for the genre fan in your life.

And if you cannot decide what movie to get, then get a streaming stick. I prefer Roku, but any will do. When the person sees the gift their response will be, “I already have one, but I can use another.”
